The Fish Institution is an Online Graphic Novel or Webcomic chronicling the adventures of several fish, but this ain't Finding Nemo.. we've got much more serious undertones going on. There's also news rants that talk about computer games, films, current events, roleplaying, and just generally what's going on. It's fun, seriously.

In The Beginning...

Starting something new is always a daunting challenge, because with every new beginning comes a great change. Change is sometimes something to fear, but sometimes it's something to rush out and embrace. With all change, the difficulty lies in recognising which it is you're meant to be doing.

Today marks great change and a new beginning for fishinstitution.com - there's a new site design, the beginning the first fish institution webcomic, and a refocussed portfolio section. Please feel free to email me with any comments you'd like to make about it. I'm usually quite friendly, and open to suggestions. I hope to keep this front page "blog" section updated fairly often, with a new comic coming every week. Erm.. just don't quote me on that.

So.. I'm sure most of the people reading this are already quite aware of the news regarding Fallout, and I won't pretend to have any more information than the vague statements and rumours that are going around. Basically, I know that if you care, then you already know what I do. Here is a link to the July news section of No Mutants Allowed - the NMA lot are a rather obsessive bunch, and therefore likely know a lot more than I do about what's going on.

I attempted to read some threads dealing with Fallout 3 on the Elder Scrolls Forums, but there was just way too much there for me to read through the whole lot. I did make a valiant attempt though. One continuing theme I noticed is, again, about change: what kind of change - if any - would be good for the Fallout universe? My opinion is that a true sequel to Fallout - a true Fallout 3 - should incorporate new technology into the already established system. I think that if Bethesda go beyond that and start making unnecessary changes then people will be upset.

Update - 19th July 1:00 am.

My girlfriend, a friend of hers and myself went to see a local performing arts college's stage production of "Hair" at the theatre last night. It was particularly impressive - I didn't really know what to expect because I didn't know anthing about Hair before I went to see it. It was particularly political, which I wasn't expecting. I'd recommend it to anyone, but the last showing was last night, so tough, you can't go.

In other news, I'm trying to make a revolutionary game physics system. It's part of the major project I have to do for my master's degree. It's not a particularly easy thing to do, yet neither is it particularly interesting, so I won't say too much about it, I just thought that you might like to know that. Currently I've got a tiny bit of ragdolling going, the collision is rather cludgey, but collision isn't the focus of what I'm doing (it's a simple "proof of concept" system) so that's okay.

Finally, the website's about done - I'm going to modify and tweak a few things here and there, add a downloads page, a bit more information and stuff. I've gotten reports that the fish graphic that swims in top-left might not be displaying right on everyone's browser. This would be because it's a PNG with alpha channels, and I've got a piece of code inserted in this web page that makes PNG alpha channels work in Internet Explorer.. well, it works on some people's version of IE. Other people have had problems. If the fish doesn't display right for you, email me with what version of what browser you're using. Then download Firefox, or some other actually good web browser.
